The Monarch Butterfly and Climate Change a Presentation by Kim Smith
Gloucester filmmaker, Kim Smith's presentation talks about the threats to the Monarch Butterfly. Global climate change, along with micro climate changes, are having a profoundly negative impact on the Monarch migration. The Monarch has recently become a candidate under the Endangered Species Act. There is no more urgently needed time than the present to learn about how we can all help protect the Monarch Butterfly.
Kim is a documentary filmmaker, environmental conservationist, photojournalist, author, illustrator and an award-winning landscape designer. She is the producer of “Beauty on the Wing: Life Story of the Monarch Butterfly” a narrated documentary released August 2020. Since its premier, “Beauty on the Wing” has received a number of honors and awards at environmental film festivals and children’s film festivals including Best Documentary at the Boston International Kids Festival in November 2020, Best Feature Film at the Providence Children’s Film Festival in February 2021, the environmental award at the Toronto International Women Film Festival, and awards for Outstanding Excellence at the Nature Without Borders Documentary Film Festival and Women’s International Film Festival.
