Electrify Everything

Avoiding run away climate change means we need to get to net-zero carbon emissions as soon as possible. But how do you do that? One part of the solutions is to ELECTRIFY EVERYTHING that runs on energy, and no longer use fossil fuel to power our cars, our buildings and our energy grid.*

As a society we need to build out our energy grid to support the increase in electricity demands. And as individuals we must make personal choices to electrify everything in our homes. This includes electrifying our heat, cooking, dryers, cars, and power tools. Additionally, homeowners with a roof pitched the right way could create their own clean electricity by installing rooftop solar.

*(The other part of the solution is protect our natural systems.)

How You Can Electrify Everything

Home Energy Assessment/Weatherization Information
A home energy assessment can help you determine how much energy your home uses, where your home is inefficient, and which problem areas and fixes you should prioritize to save energy and improve the comfort of your home. From there you can make the energy changes you want to make in your home.

There are two programs, one is for income-eligible households (Action Inc. on Cape Ann), and the other is for households earning moderate to high income (Mass Save.)

Moderate to high income go to Mass Save for a free energy assessment. And in Gloucester, market rate home owners, business or apartment buildings, can sign up for a free energy assessment with HomeWorks through the Gloucester Energy Challenge. For households whose incomes are just above the income-eligible household income threshold, Mass Save has an enhanced-incentive program that lowers the cost of energy-saving home improvements (income guidelines.)

Income-eligible households, (income guidelines)this includes homeowners, tenants, condo owners, and landlords who rent to income-eligible tenants, contact Action Inc’s Energy Services, these free services go beyond home energy assessments with free home weatherizations, replacing inefficient heating systems and more. If you would like coaching to access income eligible programs, contact Save Green & Get Green, a free service of the Cape Ann Climate Coalition’s Community Building & Education Group where volunteers help income eligible residents on Cape Ann navigate energy services.

Informational Videos about Induction Stoves, Heat Pumps, EVs, and Solar

Induction Stoves (4 minutes)

A primer on induction stoves, how they work, incentives, and why people are switching to cooking with induction stoves for a healthier home, climate change, and saving money on energy efficiency. Also included in the video are affordable plans for cooking with induction.

Heat Pumps

Heat pumps are the future for heating and cooling homes. Tom Mikus from HeatSmart Alliance (and the Cape Ann Climate Coalition) gives a presentation about heat pumps. In the Q&A after the talk, experts from HomeWorks Energy/Mass Save, Action Inc., National Grid and HeatSmart Alliance answer questions about Mass Save incentives & rebates for moderate income households; Action Inc’s free incentives for income-eligible households and their incentives for landlords; and general questions about heat pumps.

How to decide if heat pumps are for you, what they cost, and if they might be right for you.   https://youtu.be/lG12ggS_iR4
