More about the presentations:

“The Monarch Butterfly and Climate Change Presentation by Kim Smith”

Gloucester filmmaker, Kim Smith, will give a presentation on the threats to the Monarch Butterfly. Kim is a documentary filmmaker, environmental conservationist, photojournalist, author, illustrator and an award-winning landscape designer. She is the producer of “Beauty on the Wing: Life Story of the Monarch Butterfly” a narrated documentary released August 2020. Since its premier, “Beauty on the Wing” has received a number of honors and awards at environmental film festivals and children’s film festivals including Best Documentary at the Boston International Kids Festival in November 2020, Best Feature Film at the Providence Children’s Film Festival in February 2021, the environmental award at the Toronto International Women Film Festival, and awards for Outstanding Excellence at the Nature Without Borders Documentary Film Festival and Women’s International Film Festival.

Global climate change, along with micro climate changes, are having a profoundly negative impact on the Monarch migration. The Monarch has recently become a candidate under the Endangered Species Act. There is no more urgently needed time than the present to learn about how we can all help protect the Monarch Butterfly.

“Electrify Everything” with Jennifer Wallace Brodeur, Consulting Manager at VEIC. The passage of the recent federal and state laws requires us to reach 100% Net Zero emissions by 2050, and this means there will be significant changes in infrastructure ahead. Using her expertise and experience as a consultant for VEIC, Jennifer will discuss how energy production and distribution are changing with the need for 100% renewable energy. And then, most importantly, she will explore what this means for local city and town governments, and us individually. More about VEIC: https://www.veic.org/

The Agenda will also include updates on the Cape Ann Climate Coalition and the working groups.
